Since we came into the 21st century, the internet has rapidly become one of the most used tools. Internet usage has progressed as well. We began with dial-up modems and other forms of internet sources. While these sources were effective, they had their limitations, but thanks to technology, we have advanced. We now have a wireless router and Ethernet cables. These methods offer us a faster and more secure internet connection. An Ethernet cable will need to be plugged to the Ethernet port of your computer. A wireless router, on the other hand, will work with no wires. You, however, need to install the necessary software on your computer first. In the past, we used CDs for this purpose, but advancements have been made.

How To Install A Netgear Wireless Router Without CD
While you may still get an installation CD with the router, your computer may not have a CD drive. This means you will need another way to install the wireless router. Many people will panic once they can't complete the installation with a CD. Some people may go to the extent of buying an external CD drive. You don't need to go through all this to use a Netgear wireless router. You can install it without a CD. Just follow the procedure listed below and soon, you will be able to use the Netgear wireless router. You will need an Ethernet cable internet connection initially, but after that, you will use it wirelessly.

Power off your computer and the Modem: When dealing with computer gadgets that are connected to power, you should be careful. The wires involved in the connection are good conductors of electricity. So you can be electrocuted. To avoid this, you need to turn off both the computer and the modem. This will help prevent any mishaps on the electrical end. With both powered off, they will be easy to operate. When you power both down, it also gives you a chance to start from the beginning. This way, there will be no mistakes in the installation process.

Disconnect the Ethernet cable from your computer: The Ethernet cable of your modem will normally be connected to your computer at this point. You will need to unplug this cable from your computer. The installation we are carrying out will help us use the internet without this cable. So we need to remove it from the computer at first, even though the installation is not yet complete.

Plug the Ethernet cable into the router: As we stated earlier, you will need an active internet connection from a router for the process. At this point, your wireless router can’t supply the internet connection needed. So you will need the modem to supply the internet needed for the installation. The modem will provide this connection through the Ethernet cable that you plug into the router. This will make the router have an active internet connection to proceed with.

Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable to your computer: Your router will have more than one Ethernet port, as well as its Ethernet cable. Locate the Ethernet cable for the router, and connect one end of it into the port labeled LAN 1. This is the main port of the router and it is the one capable of supplying internet connection. Next, you need to insert the second end of the cable, to the port on your computer. This is the same Ethernet port you unplugged the modem from earlier.

Connect the modem to power and switch it on: At this point, most of the connections are complete. There is little chance of you getting electrocuted from any of the following steps. We need to power the modem before it can supply an internet connection. So we need to reconnect the modem to a power source and switch it on. The modem will require some time to boot, so we need to allow it to come on fully. After turning it on, wait for at least two minutes before proceeding to the next step.

Connect the router to power and put it on: At this point, we need to make sure the router is on so we can configure it. The first step in achieving this is to make sure the router is turned on. To do this, first, connect the router to a power outlet, then Switch it on. It will need some time to boot as well, so leave it for a minimum of 2 minutes before proceeding.

Turn on your computer:With the internet connection from the modem now available in the router, the next step is the installation. To do this, turn on your computer. If your computer requires power, then plug it in first. If not, then turn it on and wait for it to boot completely. When your computer comes on, internet access light needs to be active. If not, check your connection.

Type in the modem address: The next step is to visit the installation page. For this, you need to visit the webpage of the router. Open the browser on your computer, and enter the web address ‘192.168.0.1’ in the address bar. This will take you to the router home page.

Set your admin username and password: On the home page, you will need to create secure details to control and monitor the router. So you will need to create a username and a password. Don’t give them out, as they give you administrative control of the router.

Set up the router: At this point, there is no need for the modem anymore. So you can unplug the Ethernet cable and follow the instructions to browse wirelessly.
