Why Is Chromecast Not Working On My iPhone?

How Chromecast works on an iPhone

As you know, iPhone can be paired up with Google Chromecast to stream its content. Chromecast can be set up through the Google Home application for iPhone. If you do not have it, you can install it on your iPhone through the Apple app store. You may be given the option to turn your Bluetooth on so as to improve the process of the set up. If you do not wish to do so, you can choose the no option and continue with the setup.

  • Now plug in your Chromecast device, enable WIFI on the iPhone and open your Google Home app. Before setting up your Chromecast device, you will need to setup a new Home account.
  • After linking up your Google account, set up Google assistant.
  • Now connect your Google Home account to the same WIFI network that your iPhone is connected to.
  • If you already had the Google Home set up done on your phone, then in that case you just need to open your Google Home app and tap on top left part of the screen where it says set up device, click on it and tap to add new device, i.e. your Chromecast.

Once you are done, you will see that the Google Home app on your iPhone shows the newly set up Home account and also your Chromecast as the new added device. You are now ready to use it to stream media. The Google Home app on your iPhone will let you stream audio or visual media from your iPhone to the TV screen, be it Netflix or Amazon or YouTube. Just tap the media icon in your Google app and select the type of media you want to play on the big screen whether its music, or video or radio.  Once done, you are good to go.

Chromecast is not working on my iPhone

While the process of data mirroring from iPhone to Chromecast is fairly simple, problems can occur due to which the Chromecast may not work properly. Let us consider and discuss a few issues and how to troubleshoot.

Chromecast stopped working? Cover the basics first

If your Chromecast had been working before on your iPhone but stops out of nowhere, there could be some simple reasons for it. Before you move on to explore the possibility of problems of a complex level, make sure to cover all the basic points first

  • Firstly, make sure that your Chromecast device and your iPhone are on the same WIFI network. If not then bring them on the same platform to ensure connectivity.
  • Make sure that your Chromecast device is plugged in and turned on.
  • If still not working then try restarting your Chromecast. Just power it off, wait for a while and plug it back in to see if it is working.
  • If restarting the Chromecast does not work then check your phone. Make sure that WIFI is enabled and working on it. You can also try restarting your phone to see if the connection is revived.
  • Check your WIFI router and try turning it off and then on again to see if the Chromecast starts working. Signal strength may be an issue and your Chromecast may not be getting enough WIFI signals to connect to the iPhone. Try bringing the router closer or getting the Chromecast device near to the router through an HDMI extender cable.
  • If nothing working try rebooting your Chromecast, restore it to factory settings and see if connection has been recovered.

Problems in setting up Chromecast

If you are faced with a problem while trying to setup your device on Google Home app on your iPhone, here is what you can do.

  • Firstly make sure that your device is turned on, WIFI is enabled and connectivity is good.
  • If the Chromecast device is not showing on the app make sure that you have given local network access to cast enabled apps on your iPhone. You can check the network settings under the privacy settings on your iPhone. If you have not allowed for it previously then click enable so that connection can be formed.
  • Also ensure to verify your WIFI settings to ensure that both the iPhone is on the same WIFI settings as the Chromecast device.

I updated my iPhone and now my Chromecast is not working

One problem that iPhone users have faced is that the Chromecast does not work if an update has been installed on the phone. This may be mainly due to the fact that when your iPhone is updated, the settings are updated as well or restored to the state before they were altered. You may again need to check your local network settings. Most often than not, the network access is disabled to cast devices after a system upgrade. So open your settings on iOS device and tap on allowing access to the cast-enabled devices. This may help troubleshoot the issue.
