Who Can Avail of the Program?

Affordable Connectivity Program offers affordable internet access to low-income individuals. To qualify as a low-income user, you must have an income that falls under 200% of the FPG for the 48 contiguous US states and DC.

If you already have internet access or subscribe to a home broadband service, the program will not give you another connection. To avail of the Affordable Connectivity Program, you must not have subscribed to home broadband service within the last 90 days.

Is There an Age Limit?

There is no federal age limit to be eligible for the program. However, suppose you are applying for the Affordable Connectivity Program on behalf of a minor and the household income exceeds 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. In that case, you need to submit documentation to prove that you make as much as the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

You Already Subscribe to Mobile Broadband Service – Can You Get an Affordable Connectivity Program?

ACP does not support people who already have home internet access using another medium such as a subscription to mobile broadband. 

If you already have an internet subscription to a mobile broadband service, the program will not give you another connection.

You Have a Parent Who Is Eligible for the Program – Can You Be Part of It?

If your household income is within 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, then you may qualify as well. However, you must submit your application even if your parents are also applying.

How Much Does an Affordable Connectivity Program Cost?

The authorities will send free equipment to you for free. And the service plans are priced at $10 per month without a credit check or contract required, with speeds up to 3 Mbps and no data caps. The government will not charge you for the service.

Can You Choose Any Service Provider?

The program applicant must choose from a list of approved service providers. However, the service provider may change depending on your location. The FCC has listed many service providers that offer affordable services at low speeds and data caps.

How Long Is the Equipment Free?

The government will provide you with high-speed wireless internet service at no charge for three years, after which you may continue using the device in a slower speed mode that does not require monthly payments. Or, if you need another one, you may request another device.

What Are the Requirements?

If FPG applies to your state or region, you must not have subscribed to wired broadband service in the last 90 days. 

A majority of states or territories require that you have a school-aged child who qualifies for free school meals. Also, you cannot currently subscribe to mobile broadband service if it applies to your location.

The Affordable Connectivity Program may not be available in all states or territories. The program is open to participants of government schemes like Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Section 8 Housing Assistance Payments Program, and National School Lunch Program's Free Lunch Program.

You can apply through the service provider's website. Remember, not everyone who qualifies will get the service and equipment for free. So you need to complete and submit your registration on time.
