Everyone has been wondering about the future of Samsung's ever-popular Note series in the smartphone portfolio since the announcement of the Galaxy S22 Ultra in February. And, well, the Korean behemoth has finally put a stop to the conundrum by announcing that the Galaxy Note series is no longer available. Yes, we won't be seeing any new Note phones in the near future. Here's where you can find out all you need to know.

Samsung confirms that the Galaxy Note series is no longer available

Roh Tae-moon, Samsung Electronics' head of mobile experience, informed reporters (through Korean newspaper Dailian) that the "Galaxy Note series will come out as the [Galaxy S-series] Ultra" moving ahead at the MWC 2022 show floor. So, the famous Galaxy Note name is no longer in use. However, the series' core features and strengths, such as the hefty construction and S Pen slot, remain.

The Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra were the final Note phones, and they were released in 2020. Last year, Samsung skipped a Note phone in favour of adding S Pen capability to the Galaxy S21 Ultra. This year, Samsung made a giant stride forward by releasing the Galaxy S22 Ultra, a hybrid of the Galaxy Note and S-series.

If you missed it, the Galaxy S22 Ultra was released with the Galaxy S22 and S22+ earlier this month. Because of its chunkier construction and built-in S Pen slot, it resembles the Note series rather than the S series. We also did a side-by-side comparison of the Galaxy S21 Ultra and Galaxy S22 Ultra to prove that the latter is more Note-like than an S-series phone. The Galaxy S22 Ultra marked the beginning of the change, and future Galaxy S Ultra versions would include more Note-centric features.

Readers who are wondering why Samsung had to discontinue the Galaxy Note series should know that it was done to create room for the company's expanding foldable line. With its Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip models, the Korean company is dominating the foldable market, and we anticipate Samsung to put more emphasis on these ranges in the near future. With the Note series, which normally debuted in September each year, no longer in production, we should expect new foldable phones to be released in the second half of the year.
