Beginning today, all Android and Google Nest devices that are compatible will receive the Matter functionality through an automatic update. When you see the Matter badge on package, it indicates that the device is compatible.

With the help of Google Nest devices, setting up and customising your smart home has just become simpler.

Several Nest devices now support Google's Matter smart home control via Google Update
Setting up a smart home with Google Nest devices just got easier thanks to Matter protocol functionality, which allows you to manage multiple connected items. This functionality has been extended to Android devices as well, allowing you to connect new smart devices with about the same ease as connecting earphones or headphones.

Matter aims to provide a more generalized, universal smart home setup, allowing the same experience across all of your devices regardless of manufacturer.

You can control everything from your lighting and heating to locks and alarms (provided they are Matter-compatible, of course) from one device through Matter. You can now control everything from your Google Home Mini, Google Home speaker, Nest Audio, Nest Hub Gen. 1 and 2, Nest Hub Max, Nest Mini, or Nest Wi-Fi Pro.

Moreover to connecting all your devices to your (now Matter-enabled) hub via Wi-Fi, the update adds Thread network compatibility to the Nest Hub 2nd Gen., Nest Hub Max, and Nest Wi-Fi Pro. Although the devices themselves also must be able to connect via Thread for this feature to be of much use, they consume less power than Wi-Fi while providing up to 250 connections.

All Android and Google Nest devices are getting the Matter function today via an automatic update. You'll see the Matter badge on the box of additional Matter devices when you shop.
