In India, there are a plethora of excellent inexpensive true wireless earbuds, prompting us to question the need for the more expensive options. However, every now and then, we come across a product that reminds us why they are so costly. Sennheiser's Momentum True Wireless 2 Bluetooth earphones are an excellent example.

Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 Earphones
The German audio brand has followed up its popular first-generation Momentum True Wireless with a new pair of TWs that are just as stylish as the Apple AirPods Pro and the Sony WF-1000XM3, but are far more capable with better battery life and legit active noise cancellation, putting them on par with the Apple AirPods Pro and the Sony WF-1000XM3. Indeed, due to superb audio performance, a plethora of options via the app, and a touch of class all around, they were our selection for the finest true wireless headphones of the year. To see why, read our Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 review.

The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 was officially introduced in India in June for Rs 24,999. However, it is frequently discounted to Rs 19,990 these days, so if you're interested in purchasing one, keep an eye on its pricing. It competes with the Sony WF-1000XM3 (Rs 19,990), the AirPods Pro (Rs 24,900), and the Jabra Elite 85t at that price (Rs 18,999). If that's a bit too much, the original Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless headphones, which are now available for Rs 9,990, are a good option.

Design

Even if you don't have the Momentum True Wireless 2, you'll notice how high-end these are, with the kind of luxury finish you'd expect at this pricing point. The new buds have a similar design to the originals, with a gleaming metallic touch-sensitive outer shell and a Sennheiser logo on a spherical body, giving them a sleek and sophisticated appearance. With gold-plated charging connections and LEDs that show pairing status, even the interior of these buds looks beautiful.

Not only that, but the charging case, which has a woven finish that matches the colour of your buds, is very stylish. A USB Type-C connector for charging is located on the rear, as well as a small button for checking battery status, which is indicated by a small LED that illuminates red, orange, or green.

The Momentum True Wireless 2 are 2mm smaller than the originals, according to Sennheiser, and with three additional eartips included in the package, you should be able to find a secure fit. Unlike the Sony XM3, they appear to have a more universal fit, however they can be a touch large, especially if you have tiny ears. Because of the weight distribution, they appear to be heavier on the exterior, which is not ideal.

However, most users are unlikely to encounter any deal-breaker concerns. The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 will show to be a superb pair for leisure listening and sports when worn appropriately. You won't have to worry about sweat or water ruining them because they have an IPX4 grade.

When I tried to modify them, the entire exterior of each bud acted as a touchpad for controls, making them prone to inadvertent inputs and hanging up calls. There are way too many motions to memorise, but fortunately, the Smart Control software allows for adjustments. Accepting or rejecting calls, skipping music, turning on or off ANC or transparency, summoning the voice assistant, and more are all options. You now gain the ability to automatically pause media playback when a bud is removed from the ear. The transparency mode does a good job of amplifying outside noises and making them easier to hear for short periods of time, but it does so with a distinct robotic tone.

Connectivity and battery life

The Sennheiser MTW2 is on par with the greatest buds of recent times, with over six hours of battery life in the buds and more than two full charges in the case. To put things in perspective, its predecessor only lasted roughly four hours on the bud and eight hours in the case. Owing to compatibility for the newest wireless streaming standard, Bluetooth 5.1, pairing them with our smartphone was a breeze – and thanks to Qualcomm's aptX codec, you can stream Hi-Res Audio over Bluetooth with no problems.

Audio quality is excellent

The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 include 7mm dynamic drivers, just like their predecessors, which Sennheiser claims will produce "excellent stereo sound, with deep bass, realistic mids, and clean, detailed treble." When listening to Walk Off The Earth's Farther We Go, the earbuds expertly manoeuvred through the potpourri of sounds, preserving the punch in all of them without overlapping the percussions, cymbals, and numerous layers of voices.

When listening to Voices by Against The Current, the buds had a lot of power in the lower frequencies, which is unusual for wireless buds. That's not to imply the mid- and high-frequency ranges were ignored; the track's powerful beat shines through throughout. The Sennheisers are a fantastic complement for the Sony WF-1000XM3, with a wide soundstage and plenty of crisp details, while the latter can appear more tightly controlled in a nice manner.

We experienced a better experience with the Momentum True Wireless 2, mostly because to the greater fit and isolation. Idle noise cancellation is also better on Sony, but once the music was switched on, we had a better experience with the Momentum True Wireless 2. This might be a personal preference, since other people liked Sony's ANC.

Verdict

The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2's sound quality, battery life, and design are all outstanding, and we would strongly suggest them to anybody seeking for an alternative to the Sony WF-1000XM3 — the differences are minor and subjective. In fact, we believe that more people will appreciate the entire experience on them than on Sony's AirPods Pro, and that they will be simpler to suggest because they lack the ecosystem limits of the AirPods Pro.

The larger weight and somewhat higher price tag are the only factors going against it. To guarantee that your experience is as pleasurable as ours, see if you can try them on or seek for a comprehensive return policy. Otherwise, these truly wireless earbuds should be an excellent choice for anybody wishing to cut the cord, with enough sonic strength to satisfy even the most ardent audiophile.
